Green Mountain Swing is an 18-piece big band based in central Vermont. We play tunes made famous in the swing era of Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, and many others—hits of the thirties (“In the Mood”), forties (“Chattanooga Choo Choo”), and fifties (“Satin Doll”). We also draw from more recent decades with songs like “It’s Not Unusual,” “My Cherie Amour,” and “YMCA.” We play tunes of all tempos: ultra-peppy (“That’s A Plenty”), up-tempo (“American Patrol”), moderate swing (“Fly Me to the Moon”), and slow (“When I Fall in Love,” “Misty,” “Moonlight in Vermont”). We play cha-chas, tangos, mambos, waltzes, and polkas. If there’s a tune you want, chances are we can track it down and play it.
In recent years we have performed at dances, weddings, farmers’ markets, crafts festivals, college reunions, and boat cruises on Lake Champlain.
